I think that I like most the wide angle. Lately I've been using a lot the 21mm on my Ricoh GRD. I love it even if it forces me to get closer to people. Speaking of the possible Ricoh GR-E, seems that you read my mind ! I've already writen a Blog on it ;). I will post it next week. Stay tuned !

Actually I don't like the 23mm f/2 much. Yes the AF is nice and quiet, but the lens is to big and long. And the perspective does nothing for me. I know that it is the most common for street and photo journalism. But I can't get it to work...

The 18mm is my prefered lens for Fuji. And then the 35mm f.1,4 and the 14mm.
Love my Ricoh GR. But in low light the Fuji is much better. And I miss the EVF on the Ricoh. If I only could have one camera with one lens, I would go for the Ricoh for sure. Lets see the new full frame Ricoh that has been rumored... ;-)

I've seen some of your 14 mm shots Jan. That made me want to try the Ultra Wide. The feeling is really special. Once you get use to it, you find yourself trying to experiment new perspectives, new angles. It boosts your creativity. I tried the 27 mm for a while but didn't like it... too narrow. May be the 23 mm would be better, but as I only shoot with the Ricoh now, I don't feel like buying the 23 mm for my XE2.

I love this ultra wide feeling, but you have to be very carreful. The frame is way more messy if you don't pay attention. I want badldly summer to come back. Sure that this focal could be powerful when there will be a lot of people in the streets ;) The drawback is that now, I have to decide to take it with me or not. It's not so big and heavy, but I need my bag to carry it... The good thing is that it was not expensive to go wide. You can't buy a new ultra wide lens for less than 200€. Just for a comparison, the Fujinon 14 mm, same focal cost more than 800€... And this lens is pretty sharp !

Yes Jeff. That is why I love the 14mm Fuji lens (21mm full frame eq). I am also a "28mm guy", but love the 21 mm perspective. Yes you have to get close. But it gives a great possibility to play with leading lines as you mention.

Somehow I find the 35 mm view, a bit boring to work with. I know it is the most common in street and photojournalism, but I just can't get it to work... Then I would prefer 50mm instead.

Nice blog post and interesting images as always. Take care!

I've often thought that it would be good to go out and shoot ultra wide, if only to improve my 35mm work once I swapped back. I'm running a - zero photographic equipment expenditure policy - so can't get a lens to practice with. Evidently it changes the whole look to an image and the thought process must change too. I always have my camera to my eye, fortunately my knees are okay, but it does draw unwanted attention, especially the groan when I stand back up! A lot of keepers here Jeff, classy work.
