My point of view on Social Media is tough I know. I've said many time my feelings about them. I'm not asking people to leave FB or Instagram, I have no legitimacy to speak for others. What I want people to realize anyway is that it's time consuming and most of the time meaningless. I used to use FB only for photography. I posted a few times some personal stuff like pics of my family, but I don't anymore. What kept me on FB was photography but the fact is that too many crap on FB to stay on this platform. And because you can say whatever you want on it, people share more and more silly opinions, fake news ... I'm fed up with this. Showcase my photos ? Useless on FB. Instagram is far better. But for those who follow me only on Instagram they won't see much of my work either. I've shared less than 45 photographs in 2018 on this platform. Sometimes I ask myself, what is the point of sharing ? It's not to have an opinion on the photos. You barely get any feedback ... We share to exist on SM. Me included. But I prefer to share more in my Blogs rather than posting on SM.

Hi Jeff!
We are facebook "friends" -- I was just having this discussion with my son yesterday. I am torn between staying active on facebook -- I feel used knowing that I AM the product for sale. On the other hand, it is nice to keep in touch with friends and family from overseas. As for instagram, I like to see what other photographers are doing and to draw inspiration. I post pictures as a way to force myself to keep active. Photography is a hobby for me and it is easy to put it on the back burner when life gets in the way of doing what one enjoys. So at the end, we all have different motives for keeping active on social media. I don't think technology is neither good or bad -- the problem is how we end up using.

In reply to <a href="https://www.jeffchanemouyephotography.com/en/social-media-bitch/#comment-3061">John Harper</a>.

Facebook is spying on us. They use our google research to give very selective ads. So sad to hear about your friend and I can understand how you are pissed off. This is one of the reasons why I want to stay away from Facebook except from sharing from time to time some Blogs. I'm fed up with feeding the machine. I don't feel like playing the game anymore. Keep in touch with friends ? Good point but is ist worth it ? Not meaning the friends, but the price to pay for it ?
For photography, Facebook for me is useless. I haven't seen a huge amount of readers since I post them to FB lately. I guess that people got fed up with my Blogs and my rants. Is it a big deal ? Except some Blogs which had more a great amount of read, most of the time it's very confidential. 40 to 50 is good enough for me. Of course, I write for myself but also to share my photographic experience with others. It's enough to keep me continuying. And man, what would I do with all these photographs on my computer ???!!!

And if you need a reason to continue, I'm one of them. I always enjoy the reading.

Take care John !

Feeding the machine? We all do it. I can’t begin to tell you how much I currently detest Facebook. The spying they do... recently I had a close friend attempt suicide through an online gambling addiction. I was researching on Safari/Google trying to understand what had happened to them to cause this. Turned on my Facebook App afterwards and guess what? Wall to wall ads for online casinos! Instagram did the same.
Anyway, we’re supposed to stay in the limelight as photographers and yet at what cost. I’d prefer now to be on a dedicated photography platform, well, possibly. They have they’re problems also, as we both know. I want to concentrate on my website, but you know it feels as though at times you’re writing for yourself, perhaps that might be for the best in the long term. Certainly I’m photographing for myself. This last few weeks I’ve been very close to deleting my FB and IG profiles, I’m not entirely sure what’s stopping me, but I suspect it’s the connection with friends that prevents me.
I signed up to the best photography blog on the internet years ago....It’s called Jeff Chane-Mouye Photography.
