Writer’s block

For several months now, I have lacked inspiration in my blogs. I’m struggling as not possible to find something interesting to write. It coincides a little with my departure from Aix-en-Provence … It would be a little simple to put that on the back of my life change, even if I think deep down that something broke with this move. Do not think I regret this choice ! No, I repeat that I am very happy to be on the island where I grew up surrounded by my family. Continue reading Writer’s block

Revisiting 2016 & 2017

That’s it, it’s been more than 15 days that we are confined to our home. Not being essential to work (I am still in training), I was asked to stay at home until further notice. The children do not have school either and we are supposed to teach them every day. After just 1 week, I came to the conclusion that this virus was not very bad and that the children should go back to school … More seriously, I find that the children live confinement rather well. My parents’ house is very large and they also have at their disposal the garden with a concrete section which allows them to ride a scooter. We make them work in the morning and part of the afternoon, but it has a little holiday taste for them. Not really for us …

What you haven’t seen : january & february 2020

It’s been a while since I have made an article to share these photos that take dust on my hard drive. I decided to group them over a period of 2 months because the month of February was quite chaotic for me. I had a lumbago at the gym and I was inactive. Basically I dragged myself like a big rag between my job and my home. Apart from that, I was most often lying on my bed because the standing and even sitting position was quite painful. I reassure you right away, I have recovered my back for a few weeks and it is much better. What come out again to take photos ?

Street Photography Tips : work the scene

Most of the time when I’m on the street, I’m on the move. I even photograph while walking without pausing. There is a lot of instinct in the way I operate on the street. I photograph what catches my attention. But sometimes, I happen to ask myself and take more time on a stage. Very often these are scenes with static characters. It’s like in landscape photography. The mountains or the trees in front of us will not move. We can take the time to compose better, to better orient ourselves in relation to the sun … It’s the same thing in certain circumstances with Street Photography.

Behind this shot : Riverside 2

This photo was taken two months ago on the banks of a river that we like to frequent with my boys. We discovered this place a year ago. Reunion is a fairly amazing island. It is relatively small because the tour of the island is just over 200 km. As it is very mountainous with a summit which culminates at 3070 m in the center of the island and a current of wind which blows from east to west (the Alizés), we have a West coast rather always sunny and dry ( the beaches) which contrasts with an east coast which is rather green and therefore damp. This river is located in the east of the island.

Ricoh GR : The curse (again …)

This photo is fairly representative of my state of mind at the moment. Between the Ricoh GR and me, it is to take the head between the hands … OK, the reason why my father and my father-in-law have this attitude has nothing to do with Ricoh. They were just protecting their ears because we were shooting firecrackers for the Lunar New Year of the Metal Rat. Imagine that this photo is one of the last ten taken with the Ricoh GR. In the morning, the camera will gently die. For some time I had concerns we will say minor with the GR: several dust spots on the sensor, AF that messes around (I had to reboot the camera for it to work correctly) and also from time to time some files corrupted during taking pictures … I was dealing with these little problems because I had nothing else apart from my Ricoh GRD4. I had explained to you that I no longer used the GRD4 because after spending enough time with the GR, I found the GRD4 too slow in the streets.

Rebirth

4 years ago, I started to be interested in Street Photography. Today I consider Street Photography as a way of life and not a photographic style. 4 years ago, that was not the case. It was for me a way of practicing photography without traveling. By staying at home without going to exotic countries. I planned my “Street” sessions by reserving very specific days as we program sessions at the gym. Apart from these sessions, little or no photography. I photographed a lot to please others, to hear that what I was doing was great. I am not ashamed to say it, the satisfaction I obtained through the looks of others.

Behind this shot : Happy girl

You must have seen this photo in my last What you haven’t seen. I really like this photo and I wanted to decorticate it a bit to show you what I liked about this one. Nothing flashy. I would even say that this photo is rather ordinary. For some people it would be a derogatory definition of their work. Personally, that people describe my work as ordinary makes me rather happy. I no longer look for the exceptional on the street. Continue reading Behind this shot : Happy girl

What you haven’t seen : November & December 2019

That’s it we are in 2020 ! I hope that you all had a good holiday season and if it was rather lame, well you must be happy to have it behind you … A new year often rhymes with resolutions. None of this for me, just the distant prospect of having my qualification this year to be able to work on my own without an instructor by my side. We should also move into our new home by the end of February. In fact 2020 promises to be as busy as 2019 on my side …

Looking back to the year 2019

December 2018 marked a radical change in the life of my family and mine. Two months earlier I had applied for a return to Reunion Island. After more than 25 years spent in Provence between Aix-en-Provence and Jouques, why want to change ? While it may seem like diving into the unknown, it really wasn’t. Finally more of a little splash. My parents and my sister being over there, our installation would be done without problems. Nevertheless we were aware that we were going to leave life as we had built it in Jouques. Lots of changes in the end for everyone. We had to sell the house we had built, to leave very close friends. Never underestimate a move, especially when it is done with children. They left friends behind. They grew up together and the separation was difficult for them. But as you well know, children are resourceful and have this ability to move forward without looking behind them.
