Is the 7Artisan 35 mm just a portrait lens ?

I’m not going to make this Blog one of those that reviews all kinds of camera equipment. I have never been and never will be a GEAR addict! But I do have a small collection of cameras. An old Nikon FM2 film camera with its 50mm Ai f1.8 and 105mm Ai f2.5 lenses. A Fuji XE2 with the 18 mm f2.0 & the 7Artisan 35 mm f0.95. With that a Ricoh GRD IV, a GR and a GR3 … You’ll say that’s a lot of cameras ! It’s not wrong, but as you can see, these cameras are old and most of them were bought second hand. I will soon acquire a Nikon Ai 200mm f1.4 (100€) for a trip to South Africa. All these Nikon Ai lenses, I buy them cheap and I can use them on my Fuji XE2. Of course there is no AF, but it doesn’t bother me more than that. I don’t do sports photography.

7 Artisan 35 mm f0.95

It’s January 20th and I still haven’t set foot in the streets of Saint-Denis. Blame it on our confinement since my children tested positive to Covid. Note, it’s still the holidays and I won’t have had the opportunity to go to Saint-Denis anyway… Next Monday is back to school. I will find free time unless the situation deteriorates again. In short, we’ll see.

Stuck in a moment !

I recently had a little chat about music and street photography. For those who watch my shared slideshows on YouTube, you get a taste of what I love about music. It’s basically rock, folk. I bring a lot of importance to the choice of music that accompanies my photos. For a long time, YouTube blocked my videos because of artists’ copyrights. For several months now, I have no more worries. I can’t monetize my videos, but I’m free to use whatever I want.

WTF !

Life update: since the middle of last week, we have been spending a few days by the sea with our feet in the water. A friend rents us his house and we know the place well because it is the third time that we go there during the holidays. On the other hand, it is the first time that we stay there during the summer. One thing is clear, it is super hot … Not in the house itself, but on the beach.

Fuji XE2 and Manual Focusing

You’ve been waiting for the Year-End Blog, well, I have to say, I’m having a hard time writing it. I did start something several days ago, but I am not satisfied and I left it aside … Considering the title of this Blog, you must be wondering if I went out with my Fuji XE2 on the street again?

Ricoh GRD4 : the living dead camera

The first article I wrote on the Ricoh GRD4 dates from October 2016. It was 5 years ago ! It is as old as this Blog that I have kept for many years. I have written many articles about this camera … Surely too many, but that’s how it is. I like it a lot and although I have used other cameras, I always end up coming back to it. I started 2021 with the Ricoh GRD4 until March when I discovered the Fujifilm XF10. I don’t know if it’s the allure of novelty or just stepping out of my comfort zone, but I’ve only shot with the Fujifilm XF10 since April.

Going Wild !

So far, the only photos I have shared with you from Reunion Island were either photos of the city of Saint-Denis or photos of the beach. We spend a lot of time at the beach because my kids love it and we go there almost every vacation. Moreover, even in winter, we like to spend a little time in the west of the island at the lagoon. This year again, we went to spend a week at La Saline with our feet in the water. I had started to write a Blog about the beginning of the children’s holidays but I put it in the trash because I was tired of always sharing pictures of beaches with you. However, here are some of the ones made last week. (I’m not with a contradiction …)

Messing around with water

We were at my parents house for lunch and of course the children were lobotomizing in front of their small screens. We put an end to this and asked them to stop for a while to go and freshen up their heads in my parents large garden. It’s complicated because this generation grew up with smartphones, tablets, screens … Some parents outright ban screens to their children. I don’t really believe this is the solution. We try to control their consumption by limiting their screen time. But that day, we had made an exception by allowing them to bring their tablets and phones. What is reassuring is that they can still spend more time playing outside in the garden, riding a scooter in front of the house or spending hours in the swimming pool. It is not yet desperate …

Overcome boredom

I have the impression of reliving what I have already experienced in Aix-en-Provence. Something like déja vu … I started to see boredom coming last month. When you find it hard to motivate yourself to go out and take pictures because your eyes can’t see anything anymore and you feel that the streets are boring to death and you only have one desire, to escape, to go elsewhere because that it is well known: the grass is greener elsewhere. I had already experienced this in Aix-en-Provence when I started Street Photography. I went regularly to Marseille, the big city next door, for a little exoticism and rediscover the pleasure of taking photos.

Groundhog day Syndrom

The children return to school tomorrow morning after 2 weeks of holidays. As usual, these periods are quite slack at the Street Photography perspective for me because I try to spend more time with them and I have fewer opportunities to go roaming in the streets of Saint-Denis. No way to hang out in the streets after work. I go straight home to find them. We nevertheless decided to go and spend a few days on the west coast of the island to enjoy the beach. I had booked at the last minute, an apartment with sea view and a large swimming pool in the residence. Looks like Heaven will you tell me ?
