August 2025 Highlights

September is coming to an end, and I need to quickly share my August selection with you so I don’t fall behind! Since mid-August, the kids have been back at school. As for me, I’ve had more time to myself, but I haven’t taken advantage of it to explore the streets of Saint-Denis. As has often been the case in recent years, I’m going through a period where I’m not taking any photos, or very few. I’ve accepted this and am no longer forcing things. Nevertheless, here are a few photos taken during August. Back to some street work!

#1

Easy shot. Silhouettes against a light background. Photo taken during our week spent by the sea in Saint-Gilles. I found the shape of the trees very interesting and, of course, when I saw the children playing, I immediately sensed the potential and stayed to wait for something. The little girl’s gestures were enough to make me happy.

Same place, give or take a few metres. Same time of day, so more or less the same style of photo. Here, it was more of a composition workshop. I had four frames and I just had fun filling them. It was quite simple, as most people were static. I just made sure that the subjects didn’t overlap. I wanted to make the photo as clean as possible.

Definitely my favourite photo from August! I don’t need to explain why. I think the photo speaks for itself. I always get excited when I manage to extract something like this from the chaos of the street. These moments of grace are very rare. And that’s what makes street photography so beautiful.

When I saw these people, I didn’t quite understand what they were doing. I followed them for a while because I thought it would be interesting to photograph. It was only much later that I realised that the person in the middle was blind and that the others around him were guiding him along the street.

Who’s the dummy?

I had walked past this shop several times, trying unsuccessfully to incorporate the mannequin into a composition. After yet another visit, I found myself with the sales assistant, who had her arm in the same position as the mannequin, holding a price tag she had picked up. I found the situation quite comical, with the roles reversed.

More dummies. A windy day gave me this photo. A static image, yet alive thanks to the wind. Street photography with no people in the frame. I don’t do it very often, but this photo was a must.

All the photos were taken with the Ricoh GR3 | Crop 35mm.

    1. As your said Deborah, it’s all about observation and noticing things. Our eyes are used to see things others wouldn’t notice or wouldn’t care. There’s nothing exceptional here to me just caring

    1. Sometimes I just hate chaos because it’s such a mess. Believe it or not, sometimes I just wish that there were less people in an event or a place, because I’m not able to get something. It’s just so frustrating. On the other hand, when there are few people on the streets, I’m just mad because there’s nothing happening…
Kind of never happy somehow. It must be a French thing…
