October Highlights

That’s it! I’m finally taking the time to write this darn blog. I’m already way behind, and I’m only writing this article in December… Yet in October, there was plenty to write about, as we went to spend a few days in Saint-Pierre, a town in the south of the island.

What’s the difference between a Leica and a Ricoh ?

The first thing that comes to mind for me, and for quite a few other people too, is the price! Let’s take the simple example of a Ricoh GR IV and its equivalent from Leica, the Q3. €1,350 for the Ricoh versus €6,000 for the Leica. More than four times the price!

A delightful nightmare for a (street) photographer

This is the second time I have attended Dipavali in Saint-André. This town is located just 30 minutes from Saint-Denis and has a large Tamil community. Dipavali is the Festival of Lights and is undoubtedly the biggest festival in the town, taking place every year in November. Last year, I went to Holi and started writing a blog post that I never finished. This year, we went as a family and some friends joined us. The kids didn’t want to take part in the festivities, though, and sat in a shady corner playing on their phones…

September 2025 Highlights

You might say that my blogs about my ‘highlights’ are coming thick and fast. Well, not that fast, considering there’s only one per month! The thing is, I don’t write much in between these blogs, which are basically a recap of what I’ve been up to over the past month. Which says a lot about my lack of inspiration when it comes to finding an interesting topic for a blog. In fact, my last three blogs were the ‘highlights’ of July, August and September! Not only do I struggle to write, but as you’ll see after reading this blog, I also struggle to take photos!

August 2025 Highlights

September is coming to an end, and I need to quickly share my August selection with you so I don’t fall behind! Since mid-August, the kids have been back at school. As for me, I’ve had more time to myself, but I haven’t taken advantage of it to explore the streets of Saint-Denis. As has often been the case in recent years, I’m going through a period where I’m not taking any photos, or very few. I’ve accepted this and am no longer forcing things. Nevertheless, here are a few photos taken during August. Back to some street work!

In the golden pit

This weekend was the Francofolies festival. I can’t remember the last time I went to a concert. What is certain is that it was before 2019, when we moved to Reunion Island. When I was younger, I was always on the lookout for dates for my favourite bands and artists, and I went to countless concerts. I didn’t hesitate to travel long distances sometimes. I think my biggest trip was taking the TGV from my province to Paris to see Sufjan Stevens. When you love something…

July 2025 Highlights

I knew that July would be a fairly quiet month in terms of photography. Fewer opportunities despite the children being on holiday. And indeed, that proved to be the case. Nevertheless, as I try to make a point of sharing with you the few photos taken during this month, here they are. In terms of quality and quantity, it’s very light!

June 2025 Highlights

Given my chronic lack of inspiration to write a Blog, I’ve decided to share with you the photos I consider the most interesting from the previous month. A few years ago, I also did this in the form of a slideshow. At the moment, I don’t think I have enough photos to put together a slideshow … I’m going to try to be regular over the next few months to keep this monthly rendez-vous going. So let’s start with June, which saw me take very few photos. I was saved by an outing to the Grand Boucan, the annual mega-carnival that attracts a lot of people.

Oops Baby I did it again

It’s perhaps a bit shameful to confess it, but I listened to and loved this Britney Spears song back in the day. I wasn’t very young at the time (25), but the clip was very catchy, with a concentration of American pop culture in just over 3 minutes. Our schools in France have absolutely nothing in common with American schools, with their lockers in the corridor. It’s a cliché that comes up a lot in American films and TV series. To come back to the song, there have been many covers of it by many artists. You can listen to Travis’ cover here.

Reigniting my Street Photography

Since I came back from Vietnam, almost 3 months ago, I haven’t been very assiduous about street photography. I’ve had a lot of things to sort out and taking photos wasn’t really high on my list of priorities. As is often the case, the less I do, the less I want to do. Didn’t I miss it? Yes, a little, but as on my trip to Thailand, Vietnam was such a photographic orgy that I was still full of it, even weeks after our return to Reunion Island. I’ve only shown you a tiny part of what I did there. Between the purely street photos and the ‘family’ photos, I really photographed until I was sick of it. Which probably explains the diet I subconsciously imposed on myself when I got home.
