Through My Eyes Ep2.

(English version at the bottom of the page)

The form versus the content ).

Through My Eyes Ep2.

The T.M.E project that I started at the end of last year was a reminder to you, a way to show a bit of how I operate in the street. For this I use a GoPro type camera mounted on my Ricoh GRD IV. I have not done a lot of videos yet. It must be said that it changes a lot things to handle the video. On the one hand, you try to always have your camera level so that the video is readable and on the other hand, you should also pay attention to what is around you to try to take pictures. In the end, you are not focused on either of the two things and it makes things complicated. It must also be added that everyone sees you in the street and throws you interrogative glances … Forget the discretion.

Nevertheless, I find these videos interesting and it allows you to see a few places where I take pictures. The type of architecture in my city, the light and of course the streets. As for photos, they are not memorable, but this is not the purpose of the approach. I recently went out to do a little street session with my 21 mm and I thought a little video would be interesting. The 21 mm is a little less wide than the focal length of my action cam, but it is quite similar in rendering. I did not stay very long in Aix.

  • In this first video, I’m on Cours Mirabeau, main street of my city. There are a lot of people, but this is not a place that I particularly like, but I just hang around at this moment because a café is under construction and there can be interesting situations. This is where I made these photos, one of which illustrated my last blog (The form versus the content).

  • In this second video, I went to Albertas Square, a very nice place in the historic city center. I like hanging around here because at times of the day, the light is really beautiful. I stayed in front of the COS shop for a while, but nothing really interesting. Here are some pictures taken here, not so long ago.

Here you also know now that I make my pictures almost always in the same places. The city is not big. That’s what makes things interesting. To be able to renew itself and also to succeed to get something of a place thousand times visited.

  1. I’m a big fan of these videos. Ever since I saw those first two you messaged me with. I want to press the shutter when you don’t and when you do I’m 1/60 before you in my mind. The fact of that is that I’m clicking in the wrong place, missing what you’re getting. The guy on the ladder with passerby exhaling smoke, I would have missed that. Fabulous, thoroughly enjoy seeing through your eyes. The expression on the lady with spectacles in the secon video is priceless and a look we all know!

    1. It would be funny to shoot together to see what we would get in the same places. May be next year. I’ll have to go in your country for english courses. I’d like to move again in Edinbourgh cos I really liked this city. But may be Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge and even Bristol ! 😉 We’re attracted by different things. I shot more than that but the other pics were failures. I should include them as well in the videos. Next time… The guy on the ladder, I knew that I could have something. There were his two co-workers in the background. I had my anchor subjects. I just saw this group of young people coming from my right and I was lucky to get the shot as she was exhaling smoke. It’s a whole thing but a very lucky one. I like it because of the moment and the fact that no one is overlapping with the guy on the ladder. And yeah, as the look of that lady says so well, I’m a damn freak !

      1. I get that look when I’m not even holding a camera :-))
Edinburgh is a fantastic city, my sister and her family used to live there. Your English is fine, you may need to work on the Scottish accent! Bristol is okay, Bath is nearer and better in my opinion. I’d like to ride my motorbike down to to you, not sure Mrs H would be too happy though!
