7 Artisan 35 mm f0.95

It’s January 20th and I still haven’t set foot in the streets of Saint-Denis. Blame it on our confinement since my children tested positive to Covid. Note, it’s still the holidays and I won’t have had the opportunity to go to Saint-Denis anyway… Next Monday is back to school. I will find free time unless the situation deteriorates again. In short, we’ll see.

Stuck in a moment !

I recently had a little chat about music and street photography. For those who watch my shared slideshows on YouTube, you get a taste of what I love about music. It’s basically rock, folk. I bring a lot of importance to the choice of music that accompanies my photos. For a long time, YouTube blocked my videos because of artists’ copyrights. For several months now, I have no more worries. I can’t monetize my videos, but I’m free to use whatever I want.

WTF !

Life update: since the middle of last week, we have been spending a few days by the sea with our feet in the water. A friend rents us his house and we know the place well because it is the third time that we go there during the holidays. On the other hand, it is the first time that we stay there during the summer. One thing is clear, it is super hot … Not in the house itself, but on the beach.

Fuji XE2 and Manual Focusing

You’ve been waiting for the Year-End Blog, well, I have to say, I’m having a hard time writing it. I did start something several days ago, but I am not satisfied and I left it aside … Considering the title of this Blog, you must be wondering if I went out with my Fuji XE2 on the street again?

Liverpool 2016 Remux

A few months ago, I recovered files lost during a hard drive crash. Among all the photos lost at the time, almost 6 months of photos including those of my stay in Liverpool. At the time I was just starting Street Photography and still used the Fuji XE2 on the streets. My style was quite different today. What has changed a lot over the past 4 years is my way of post-processing the photos. Whether in color or in Black & White, I use much less aggressive processing and above all, I no longer crop my photos.

Monograph

Even recently, Tim Huynh the director of the documentary Fill The Frame, whom I had interviewed recently, asked me why I did not come back to Facebook. I can say it now, I was addicted to social media. Always checking on my smartphone how many views on my shared photos, how many likes … A real drug addict. It was not healthy behavior for me. I don’t know how the others deal with it, but it was unlivable for me. From time to time, I have also had photos that have been featured by Facebook, Instagram, 500px or World-Street.Photography groups. Subconsciously, for each photo shared, I hoped that my photo could please and be put forward by the curators.

2016 re-processing

I told you that I had started working on a book that would bring together photos of my 3 years spent in the streets of Aix-en-Provence. I have already made a selection of about 130 photos. I had paused this project because I was not satisfied with the processing of some old photos. The problem is that I no longer had control over these photos because I had lost the RAW files during a hard drive crash. Finally, I accidentally dropped the HDD on the ground and since then it no longer worked. I still waited 4 years before looking into the issue. So I sent the faulty HDD for a clean room data recovery. It cost me the tidy sum of € 800 … Continue reading 2016 re-processing

Revisiting 2016 & 2017

That’s it, it’s been more than 15 days that we are confined to our home. Not being essential to work (I am still in training), I was asked to stay at home until further notice. The children do not have school either and we are supposed to teach them every day. After just 1 week, I came to the conclusion that this virus was not very bad and that the children should go back to school … More seriously, I find that the children live confinement rather well. My parents’ house is very large and they also have at their disposal the garden with a concrete section which allows them to ride a scooter. We make them work in the morning and part of the afternoon, but it has a little holiday taste for them. Not really for us …

Aix-en-Provence on my mind

I arrived in Aix-en-Provence at the end of 1997, a few months before this month of July 1998 blessed by all French Footix. That year, the French Football team became for the first time World Champion of Football. Footix was the mascot of this World Cup. I do not know why during these planetary events, there are always these ridiculous mascots. Here Footix was a pretty ridiculous cock whose name was a distant reminder to the irreducible Gallic of Uderzo. You know Asterix, Obelix, Idefix, Panoramix … Since I think that the term Footix has become pejorative when you speak of someone who loves football. I so have spent more than 20 years in Aix-en-Provence before moving to this lost island in Indian Ocean. How long do we live ? 80 years ? A bit more for some. I spent 1/4th of my life in Provence. I met my wife, I became a dad and I also discovered the Street Photography late at the age of 40. When I see some young people starting street photography, I’m a little envious because I thought that if I had been interested in Street Photography in the 80s, I could have documented this period and all those who follow-up … Regrets ? A little yes. Continue reading Aix-en-Provence on my mind

Looking back to the year 2018.

(English version at the bottom of the page)

Blog presque obligatoire de fin d’année, je m’y colle aussi. Et pourtant je n’ai pas envie que cette année se termine ! J’essaye de me rendre dans Aix-en-Provence dès que j’ai le temps après ou avant le boulot. 30 minutes me suffisent. Continue reading Looking back to the year 2018.
