I recently bought a used Ricoh GRD IV. Another one you might say… The previous one had been damaged in a stupid fall (Blog here). The camera had hit the ground hard and didn’t seem to have any apparent damage. I did notice that the left side of my pictures were still blurry. In addition, small dust spots had appeared. It was impossible to close the aperture beyond f4, otherwise the dust was visible. That’s why I went on the hunt for a new GRD IV. I found it on leboncoin. But there too, I realised that there was a problem when I used the camera at f 2.8. Still a sharpness problem that doesn’t appear at f1.9 or other apertures. The camera is usable but I don’t have to use f2.8.

I’ve been doing street photography for more than 6 years. That’s not much when I see that some people have decades behind them … I’ve also been blogging for 6 years. As soon as I started to share my photos on the internet, I felt the need to write too. Not necessarily to write about my photos but to talk about what I was doing in the street. It was like a kind of photographic notebook where I wrote down all the questions I was asking myself, my process of evolution as a street photographer. The first four years were very rich in content. It was during this period that I wrote, in my opinion, my most interesting Blogs.

I had started posting slideshows on YouTube just before I moved to Reunion Island. I had found there a way to share my photos with a larger number of people than on my website. Of course, I was already no longer present on Instagram or Facebook. I was quite happy to have finally been able to cut off from social networks, but I still kept a foot in the social sphere.

For some people, going elsewhere allows them to be more creative and opens up a wide range of possibilities. For me, the effects are a bit different. I’m rather defensive and I’m lost because I no longer have the reference points that I acquired in Saint-Denis where I spend most of my time. I often tag my photos with # Reunion Island. This is misleading because 99% of my photos are taken in Saint-Denis and it is in no way representative of the island as a whole. The towns that make up Reunion Island are rather rural. They are very photogenic. My wife told me that it would be interesting for me to go elsewhere to take photos. But I prefer to stay in Saint-Denis. I have my routines there and as you can guess, it’s quite comfortable to stay where you have your habits…

People could follow me in my wanderings to be with me and see a little how I operate in the street.
